Bluey: Let’s Play!

Bluey: Let’s Play is a mobile game inspired by the beloved TV series Bluey. Players join six-year-old Blue Heeler dog Bluey, her sister Bingo, and their family and friends as they embark on playful adventures, learn valuable life lessons, and evoke emotions from even the most stoic of adults.

Recently, Ludo, the creators of the Bluey cartoon, treated fans to a final set of new episodes in Australia, while Disney+ unveiled previously unseen episodes to American audiences. Following this excitement, news broke that the show would be taking a hiatus after the conclusion of season three, leaving fans longing for new animated content.

In a pleasant surprise for fans during this Bluey hiatus, BBC Studios partnered with game developer Budge Studios to release the Bluey: Let’s Play app on August 15, 2023. Notably, this game differs from the Bluey game that surfaced unexpectedly last month, and there are currently no updates available regarding that particular release.

The game begins with a charming view of the Heeler family home exterior, presenting players with two accessible spaces to explore for free—the kitchen and the backyard. Additionally, there are five locked rooms awaiting unlocking (more on that later!) and a sixth area labeled "coming soon," teasing the upcoming episode "Camping."

Players engage by placing characters within each room, utilizing touch controls to drag them to different locations. Once situated, characters can interact with various elements in their environment, such as bouncing on a trampoline or swinging on the backyard tree swing. While Melanie Zanetti lends her voice to the character of Mum Chilli, providing occasional guidance and suggestions, notably absent is Bluey's voice, leaving Mum as the sole vocal presence in the game.

Each room is adorned with unique objects that characters can hold, some featuring animated effects. From water guns that drench Bingo and Bluey to whimsical lawn gnomes that animate the Fairy Circle with levitating flowers, the interactive elements add depth to the gameplay. Moreover, players can manipulate non-playable objects like straightening picture frames, toggling lights, or tapping Australian flora and fauna to set them in motion. For added engagement, players can dig mounds of dirt with a shovel or rake up leaf piles, and even assemble a backyard pizza oven from its unopened box—then, delightfully, feed their characters by hovering a slice over their eager mouths!
